Running directly through the heart of Many, Louisiana — one of the oldest continuously traveled trails in North America.

Running directly through the heart of Many, Louisiana, El Camino Real (Highway 6) is one of the oldest continuously traveled trails in North America. Originally following ancient buffalo and Native American trade routes, it was formally opened in 1714 by French explorer Louis Juchereau St. Denis.

Physical Remnants — Largest in the U.S.

The Lobanillo Swales

Located just across the Sabine River crossing, the Lobanillo Swales represent the largest concentration of physical remnants of the road found anywhere in the United States. Visitors can walk alongside seven distinct parallel trenches—worn up to 12 feet wide and 18 feet deep by three centuries of pioneer wagons, soldiers, and traders.

Annual Event — Every May

Sale on the Trail

Every May, the communities along El Camino Real host the "Sale on the Trail." This massive event turns the historic route into a 111-mile picker's paradise, with yard sales, antiques, and local vendors lining the highway from Natchitoches, LA into East Texas.
